I’m back. I’ve been busy lately and haven’t had a lot of time to play games, but I wanted to talk about a game that was released on this day in 2006. 2000s kids may remember it, and it was one that I played all the time. This was the official game tie-in to the Pixar movie Cars, and was actually like a sequel rather than based off of the plot of the movie. There is score to this, sounding somewhat like the Randy Newman score of the movie and typical country music, but I’m going to focus more on the songs that they got the rights to use in the movie. It’s impressive because these songs weren’t in the movie but they were able to use them in this game.

Night Drive – The All American Rejects: You can tell it’s the 2000s because of this, but I’m glad they were able to use an AAR song in here somewhere.
What I want – Autopilot Off: Never heard of this band, but it gives me some nostalgia for the pop punk days of the 2000s.
Free Ride – Edgar Winter: I mean can you really go wrong with Edgar Winter? It’s timeless and a jam! It’s so catchy I forget that I’m driving.
Here I Am – The Explosion: Basically ditto for What I Want. If it’s a racing game from the 2000s, I definitely expect some pop punk in there somewhere.
Come On, Let’s Go – Los Lobos: It’s probably the only song I’ve heard from them other than the cover of La Bamba. Not much of a racing song, but nice for strolling.
White Knuckle Ride – Lynyrd Skynyrd: It literally doesn’t get any more southern than Lynyrd Skynyrd. Considering the song is about riding, I can’t think of anything more fitting for a Cars game either.
Best Looking Guy in Town – Natural Born Hippies: I literally hate this song, not gonna lie. Sorry if you like it, but I just find it stupid and annoying.
Rock this Town – Stray Cats: I grew up with this song just as much as this game. My family had a couple of CDs of Brian Setzer (the lead singer of Stray Cats), and anything of his brings so much nostalgia, even more than pop punk. Hearing this song in this game brought me so much joy as a kid. I’m gonna get off the nostalgia rant. Just go listen to some Stray Cats rockabilly.

I like almost every song on this soundtrack, so I’m going to give it 4 out of five piston cups.

That’s all I have for now folks. I hopefully will be playing more games soon, and therefore will be posting more. Until next time, remember to always wear your seat belts, even in a kid’s game.
