Forgive my bad pun please. On Instagram I showed everyone what I got for Christmas, but my birthday was also a few days later. For that I got the Spyro Reignited Trilogy because… and this may shock you… I had never played the Spyro games!

I know you all must be ashamed, but that’s why I had to correct this! Therefore, I will review the first Spyro game, and while I played the version from the Reignited Trilogy, both versions sound pretty similar. So, without further ado, let’s see how the drummer from The Police did with this score (it’s true, look it up).

This guy

A good summary of my opinion is that I didn’t feel like most of the score stuck out to me. The part I remember the most is the main menu music, probably partly because I heard it so much.

Clip from the original version but sounds similar to the remake

This shows me that I’m in for a fun time with the character of Spyro. Most of the soundtrack after this has a similar feel. This was similar to my opinion of Ratchet and Clank (also Insomniac Games, it must be something with them).

As opposed to the mischievous sounding soundtrack of Ratchet and Clank, this score sounds really fun through most of it. It really seemed to me like a game for kids, which you’re probably thinking “well no kidding”, but I mean in a way that I could’ve enjoyed it as a kid. When I got this game I knew that it was meant for kids, and since I didn’t actually play it as a kid I tried to put myself into that mindset.

I found it overall pretty easy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because as a kid I wouldn’t want anything too frustrating (and honestly don’t really want that now but it’s sometimes unavoidable). Also did I mention that the game is fun? As a kid I wouldn’t want something dystopian like a Half Life. I want a story that’s fun and joyous. This brings me back to the video games that I played when I was younger. The music in the Artisans world captures that really well.

I knew this game existed as a kid, but I never played it, so that’s why I had to make up for this terrible error of mine. Except for the main theme and the Artisans world, none of the soundtrack really stuck out to me, but as I’ve said several times, the score really captures the funness (made up word) of the game. I’m going to give it my review of not something I’d really want to listen to outside of the game but it didn’t take away from the experience, which his three out of five stars.
