Ratchet and Clank: A Brief Review of the Score

Ratchet and Clank
Released: November 4, 2002
Developer: Insomniac Games
Composer: David Bergeaud

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the beginning of Playstation’s legendary series Ratchet & Clank. I played it for the first time this year, and man I loved getting to accumulate weapons and just go crazy! The soundtrack fit the mood of mischief and chaos, and the only downside I see is that the soundtrack sounds the same throughout to me. I don’t remember the music from any particular area sticking out over the others. The music from the final boss sounds a little bit more menacing, but most of the score sounds like background noise for sneaking around and taking out robots (which is what you do most of the time). Overall the music from Ratchet & Clank isn’t something I’d want to listen to outside of the game, but it didn’t detract from experience, instead it made it more exciting. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
