One, Two, Freddy Fazbear’s Coming for You: The Intense Ambience of FNAF

Five Nights at Freddy’s
Released: August 8, 2014
Developer: Scott Cawthon
Composer: I dunno, it’s probably royalty free music
When I originally wrote this it was Halloween, so it seemed like a perfect time to talk about a spooky game, and one of the most iconic spooky game franchises at this point is FNAF. This cheaply made indie game by a guy named Scott Cawthon has ended up becoming one of the biggest horror game franchises out there with too many sequels to count. There’s not a whole lot of soundtrack within this game, and much of it seems like already recorded music, but it still puts you on edge.

The main menu theme already gives the feeling that something sinister is coming. During the gameplay you have no way to run or fight, only to try and keep the animatronics from finding you. There’s an ambiance playing in the background that makes you uneasy and gives the impression that something’s near. (Ambience)(More Ambience)

Apart from the ambiance there’s also music that randomly plays in the background, such as a circus organ or foxy singing away. Whenever you turn on the lights outside your office, Bonnie or Chica could be there staring at you, and the game gives you this nice sting to scare you out of your pants.

You may have kept any of the animatronics from getting into your office, but if you run out of power then you see Freddy’s flashing lights and get to hear this, which is a music box version of the Toreador March by Georges Bizet, and you must wait for either the night to end or for Freddy’s lights to shut off and for him to suddenly kill you!

This soundtrack has a great mix of creepy music and silence to keep you on edge the entire time. If you’d like to learn more about the audio in FNAF I recommend this video.

I give this soundtrack a rating of 5 out of 5 stars
